Near the end of her life, Bob’s great grandmother, Maria Geselbracht Kettelkamp, published a small book Ruckblick (a look back) sharing with her children memories of a life filled with joys and sorrows. At the age of 16, she was deeply moved by a series of sermons at her church, and committed herself to living a Christian life. In her late life reflections, she described many feelings of failure in her life plan. Bob responded to poignant phrases from this writing by doing a series of pastel sketches, some of which he later developed into prints or monotypes. MJK
